Warhol and Lichtenstein Highlight A.G. Edwards Art Exhibit

Lafayette, Louisiana, March 27, 2006 – Several works by renowned artists Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Christo will be featured in Landscapes: Selections from the Corporate Collection of A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. Presented at the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, the show will open on April 21 and run through September 2. The Lafayette branch office of A.G. Edwards will be sponsoring the exhibit of photographs and prints from the St. Louis-based financial services company's corporate art collection.

A series of three screenprints titled Sunset by “Pop Art” icon Warhol headline the exhibit. The three were part of a group of 472 Sunset images – featuring widely varied color schemes – that were displayed in the Hotel Marquette in Minneapolis in the 1970s. In another piece, Lichtenstein – one of Warhol's contemporaries – reinterprets landscape tradition with a visual “Pop” vocabulary in his print titled Landscape . Also included in the exhibit is a print of Running Fence , a four-year undertaking by husband-and-wife team Christo and Jeanne-Claude that involved creating an eighteen-foot-high fabric fence that snaked 24.5 miles over rolling hills in California's Sonoma and Marin counties.

“The artworks featured in this collection provide some stunning views and landscapes, and we are very pleased to be able to bring this exhibit to the Lafayette community,” says A.G. Edwards Branch Manager Tom Grote. “These pieces cover a broad range of distinctive territories, and we hope visitors will enjoy this visual journey.”

Consisting of nearly 50 pieces by more than 40 different artists from around the world, the A.G. Edwards exhibition features landscapes ranging from recognizable locations such as Machu Picchu and Arizona's Monument Valley to nondescript farmhouses and desert plains. While many of the artists are American, several hail from parts of Europe and also Japan and Australia.

A.G. Edwards maintains a collection of art that includes prints, photography, and vintage posters. In 1991, the firm created the traveling exhibit program, encouraging branch offices to partner with local art institutions to bring selections of the corporate collection to their communities. Since the program's inception, A.G. Edwards branches have collaborated with more than sixty institutions across the country to sponsor various exhibits.

The Landscapes exhibit will be on display at the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum, located at 710 East Saint Mary Boulevard , from April 21 through September 2. The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For directions or more details, call the museum directly at ( 337) 482-2278 .

Complementing the exhibition the museum will open the artist installation titled, Dodge a Bullet: Margaret Evangeline and Women Artists also drawn from the Corporate Collection of A.G. Edwards & Sons.
