At the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum at the University of Louisiana
at Lafayette we seek to foster an understanding and appreciation
of the visual arts throughout the ages and represent cultures
from around the world through the organization and presentation
of major art exhibitions and related programming, designed to
meet the educational and cultural needs of the diverse populations
of southwest Louisiana. Through our collections, exhibitions,
and educational programs, we seek to integrate art into people's
lives.
Founded in 1968, the University Art Museum of the University of
Louisiana at Lafayette has established a tradition of excellence
in the organization of museum exhibitions and award-winning publications,
and has served as a catalyst in the development of cultural tourism
in southwest Louisiana. The museum serves a broad and diverse
population base of 800,000 citizens in an eleven-parish area.
The new University Art Museum is representative of a change in
direction for UL Lafayette and Acadiana. This effort, among other
compelling initiatives of the University, will support and enrich
teaching and research programs.
Through
the Museum for a New Century Campaign, UL Lafayette seeks to raise
significant gifts to enhance its cultural offerings for Acadiana.
This funding will support Phase One construction of the museum
complex including the creation of a sculpture garden.
This
effort will result in new collaborations and create new ways to
build community, provide educational services, enhance collections
and emphasize access for everyone.
Private
support helped establish the University Art Museum in the 20th
century, and private support from generous contributors like you,
will complete and sustain this Museum for a New Century.
